Fire Fox™ flame retardant clothing: the ideal choice for light welding work
Welding is a technique widely used in many industrial environments, requiring the right protection against heat and sparks. Fire Fox™ welding clothing from Weldas is made of comfortable and breathable cotton, treated to be flame-retardant. Additionally, it’s certified to Class 1 of the EN11611 standard, making Fire Fox™ welding clothing ideal for TIG welding and other light welding tasks. In this article, we’ll delve deeper into the features of various Fire Fox™ welding garments.
Flame-retardant cotton
FireFox welding clothing is crafted from 100% blue cotton with a fabric density of 305 grams per square meter. The cotton is woven both vertically and diagonally, ensuring a sturdy and durable structure. Moreover, the cotton fabric is sewn with 3-thread Kevlar, an exceptionally strong and flame-retardant fiber.
Another key feature of Fire Fox™ flame retardant clothing is its treatment with a flame-retardant impregnating agent. This provides protection to the welder against the hazards of heat and sparks and ensures certification to Class 1 of the EN11611 standard.
Safety and comfort
Fire Fox™ flame-retardant cotton welding clothing is designed with both safety and comfort in mind. The closure of the flame-retardant jacket and coverall is double-layered, featuring both a Velcro closure and snap buttons. This creates a loop preventing any sparks from getting underneath the jacket and coverall. Moreover, this prevents the metal part of the closure from coming into direct contact with the welder’s skin, thus preventing short circuits or electrical conduction. The welding jacket and fire-retardant coverall also have a Velcro fastener at the neck to prevent welding sparks from reaching the neck of throat. Below, we look at the specifications of each garment in more detail.
Flame retardant jacket
Unlike other Weldas welding clothing, the cotton welding jacket features two front pockets for storing tools and accessories. These pockets are covered with a flap in a red accent colour and Velcro closure. Another notable feature of the flame-retardant welding jacket 33-2300 is the row of buttons at chest level. These buttons allow for the attachment of a leather apron from other Weldas clothing lines, providing welders with the flexibility to add additional protection when temporarily engaging in more intensive welding tasks. Additionally, this preserves the quality of the flame-retardant welding jacket. And to make donning gloves easier, the sleeves of the fire-retardant jacket can be reduced in size.
Flame retardant work trousers
The Fire Fox™ flame-retardant work trousers 33-2600 are wonderfully comfortable due to the breathable cotton fabric. This makes the trousers suitable for wearing under leather welding trousers. At the bottom of the welding trousers there is an opening with a Velcro closure for wearing boots or shoes when putting them on. The welding trousers feature a ruler pocket and a back pocket. In contrast, the 33-2700 dungarees do not have a ruler pocket, but they do have front storage pockets and a chest pocket. The bib overall can be adjusted with elastic straps and features flame retardant plastic buckles.
Flame retardant cotton overall
Besides a separate flame retardant jacket and welding trousers, there is also a flame retardant overall, the 33-2800. This welding coverall features two chest pockets, a back pocket and a pocket for a ruler. The elastic at the back ensures a good fit. Both welding trousers and the fire-retardant coverall from the Fire Fox™ clothing line have the option to insert rubber knee pads. This provides extra convenience and comfort when welding on the knees. All Fire Fox™ welding clothing is available in sizes ranging from M to XXXL.
Welding sleeves
The Fire Fox™ clothing line also offers separate flame retardant welding sleeves, model 33-2320. The design is the same as the Golden Brown™ leather welding sleeves. The flame retardant cotton sleeves have a Velcro closure to prevent them from sliding down and an elastic band at the bottom to ensure a snug fit around the wrist. The Fire Fox™ welding sleeves are ideal for protecting bare arms during the summer months against radiant heat, for example during TIG welding, but they can also provide additional protection to the welder’s clothing.
Cotton welding jacket with leather welding sleeves
The Yellowjacket® flame retardant jacket is an ideal solution when you are looking for extra protection on the sleeves but still want to benefit from the breathable properties of the flame-retardant cotton fabric. The Yellowjacket® is also made from 305 grams of blue cotton per m2, but with the addition of split leather sleeves in the Golden Brown™ colour scheme. Like the FireFox jacket, this Yellowjacket® is also sewn with 3-thread Kevlar and certified to Class 1 of the EN11611 standard. Unlike the FireFox jacket, however, it only has an inside pocket but still retains the double closure.
EN 11611 certified for excellent safety
All Weldas welding clothing is certified, prioritising the safety and protection of welders. Therefore the Fire Fox™ flame-retardant clothing is also certified to class 1 of the EN11611 standard. This standard is a European standard specifically for protective clothing for welders and similar activities. The fact that Fire Fox™ welding clothing complies with this standard means that it meets strict requirements for protection against heat, flames, welding spatter and electrical risks. Class 1 is designed for less intense welding conditions. For more severe welding conditions with a higher risk of exposure to welding spatter and flames, we recommend Class 2 welding clothing, such as the Golden Brown™, Arc Knight® or Lava Brown™ clothing.
